While there won’t be wholesale changes to the first-team squad, a string of peripheral Liverpool players will move on to pastures new this summer.
The domestic season is finished for another year, but with the World Cup coming and transfer window already open, there is no time to draw breath.
Liverpool have already confirmed the £39 million signing of Fabinho from Monaco, and more activity is expected in the coming weeks.
As well as various incomings, a host of current squad members will go the other way this summer, as their careers progress away from Anfield.
Here are 12 who will almost certainly be leaving.
Emre Can
Emre Can‘s future has been up in the air all season and a move to Juventus could even be confirmed by the time you’re reading this.
The 24-year-old will be a loss, as his potential is great, but the capture of Fabinho will more than make up for his absence.
Perhaps the biggest shame here is that the club receive no fee for the German international, but they arguably deserve praise for not bowing to the player’s contract demands.
Daniel Sturridge
It has been a sad end to Daniel Sturridge‘s Liverpool career, with injuries bringing him down in his prime.
For too long, he has been a shadow of the player that shone so brightly alongside Luis Suarez in 2013/14.
A Premier League club will take him, despite the constant risk of fitness issues, but the question will be price; how much is he worth now?!
Simon Mignolet
Simon Mignolet is a good goalkeeper, but he is just not good enough for a club who want to compete for the title.
The Belgian’s time at Anfield is coming to an end but he won’t be without suitors.
Mignolet has always been more of a mid-table Premier League goalkeeper, but a move abroad may suit him also.
Danny Ings
It has been an admirable fightback from two serious knee injuries from Danny Ings, whose work ethic and personality are both admirable.
The Reds need far superior back-up options in attack, though, and there is every chance the 25-year-old has played his last game for the club.
Like Mignolet, a team looking for a mid-table finish, or perhaps Premier League survival, will take a punt on him.
Divock Origi
After a struggle of a season on loan at Wolfsburg, Klopp is unlikely to retain his services of Divock Origi, who has one year remaining on his Liverpool contract.
The 23-year-old hasn’t progressed since becoming a key part of Liverpool’s 2015/16 Europa Cup run, and the Reds can do better.
Despite Dominic Solanke‘s first-season struggles, Klopp is far more likely to keep the young Englishman as third or fourth-choice striker, rather than Origi.
Jon Flanagan
Did you forget that Jon Flanagan is still at the club? He’s spent the last few months on loan at Bolton.
Injuries have had a negative impact on the Liverpool-born full-back and, in terms of quality, he is way short of what the Reds require now.
The Championship beckons, at best.
Lazar Markovic
Another who has disappeared from the face of the earth, Lazar Markovic has to go down as one of Liverpool’s greatest transfer flops, having cost £19.8 million from Benfica back in 2014.
The Serb has been completely frozen out by Klopp, and the quicker he is shipped out of Merseyside on a permanent deal, the better it will be for all parties.
Ovie Ejaria
It is so tough for youngsters to make the grade at Liverpool, and Ovie Ejaria looks set to become the latest to fall short.
The silky midfielder spent half of the season on loan at Sunderland, and with Naby Keita and Fabinho coming in, his chances of playing time in the Reds’ first-team will be reduced even further.
The Premier League looks too much for him currently, so it may be that a Championship club sign him.
Ryan Kent
Another player with great ability, but not quite enough for Liverpool’s high standards, Ryan Kent will also likely depart this summer.
He had difficult loan spells at Freiburg and Bristol City this season, struggling for playing time at each club. Again, a Championship move, similar to that for Sergi Canos to Brentford previously, seems about right.
Pedro Chirivella
Pedro Chirivella never quite had enough to be considered a future first-teamer, and his career needs to be reignited after growing a little stale.
His next destination remains up in the air but after a good season with Willem II in Netherlands he could make his move there permanent.
Connor Randall
Connor Randall is a hard-working but limited footballer, and at 22, he must now kick on and play regularly.
He spent time at Hearts in 2017/18, but he must find a permanent club and play week in, week out. A lower league move makes sense.
Adam Bogdan
Still at the club after moves away in previous windows failed to materialise, reports suggest Adam Bogdan will finally be released this summer.
Meanwhile, here are five players Jurgen Klopp might consider for sale if the right bid comes in.
Adam Lallana
Perhaps it is the boyish looks, but it is easy to forget that Adam Lallana is now 30 – and very injury-prone.
He was limited to just 15 appearances this season, just three starts, and due to the soon-to-be improved depth in Liverpool’s midfield, Klopp could deem him surplus to requirements.
The manager is a big admirer of Lallana, which may work in his favour, but now would be the time to sell him while he retains some transfer value.
When he is fit and firing, he is a useful player, but how often do both occur these days? A mid-table Premier League club would be a good move for the player; perhaps even a return to Southampton?
Nathaniel Clyne
Nathaniel Clyne‘s season was essentially a write-off because of a long-term back problem, but has he now been left behind?
The emergence of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez at right-back have made him dispensable, and like Lallana, there are fitness concerns surrounding him.
At 27, time is still on his side, which means other clubs will be willing to splash out on him. A transfer may be considered if a decent bid comes in.
Joel Matip
This is unlikely, but you wouldn’t completely rule out Joel Matip being moved on.
Yet another who is frustratingly injury-prone, he hasn’t kicked on at all this season, and some timid performances have been infuriating.
It wasn’t long ago that many rated him higher than Dejan Lovren, but he’s now been overtaken by the Croat.
If Klopp adds one of Jamaal Lascelles or James Tarkovski, Matip would find himself as fourth choice, while the boss may also be looking to use Gomez as a centre-back.
A healthy bid for his services would be too good to turn down, especially as he was signed on a free.
Alberto Moreno
Unless Klopp has another left-back lined up, which at the moment doesn’t seem on the cards, Alberto Moreno will stay at Liverpool.
The Spaniard was actually performing well before the injury curse struck and Andy Robertson usurped him late last year, but moments of recklessness still let him down.
At 25, the Reds could receive quite a bit of money for him – a sizeable offer could make it tempting to accept.
There shouldn’t be an issue with Moreno staying and being second-choice, but equally, a fair chunk of supporters won’t be unhappy to see him plying his trade elsewhere.
Ragnar Klavan
Klopp will no doubt want four centre-backs to choose from next season, so as mentioned above, Klavan could find himself well down the pecking order.
The Estonian veteran has done little wrong for Liverpool and is something of a cult figure, but he can be improved upon.
His legs are starting to creak, but the Reds may be able to get a little bit of money for him. If they can, it may be time to say goodbye.
