CONFIRMED: Liverpool FC complete £39m signing of Brazilian midfielder Fabinho

Liverpool FC have confirmed the capture of AS Monaco midfielder Fabinho, who will join on July 1.

Fee: £39m
Position: Defensive midfield
Nationality: Brazilian
Age: 24
Height: 6ft 2″
Strengths: Aerial duels, passing, tackling

The Reds’ transfer business is already up and running for the summer and Fabinho has penned a five-year deal.

From seemingly nowhere, the news broke on Monday evening that talks were underway between the clubs, and within a couple of hours the move has been completed.

It means fans can look forward to an all-new midfield arrangement next term, with the Brazilian joining Naby Keita as a summer arrival.

The reported fee stands at £39 million, rising to £43 million with add-ons.

Fabinho spoke to LiverpoolFC.com after his signing was confirmed:

“I am really excited about this move.

“This is something that I always wanted – this is a giant of a team. The infrastructures of the club look exceptional.

“A football club of this size coming after my services, I didn’t have to think that much about coming over.

“I will try to create my own history at this football club. Hopefully, on a personal level, I’m able to win titles with this club.

“I will try to grow and learn and improve myself, and to be part of the club’s history.”

Fabinho‘s signing is further proof of Liverpool’s growing influence in the transfer market, and provides the perfect boost after Saturday’s Champions League final defeat.

Signing a high-calibre within 48 hours of the defeat to Real Madrid underlines the Reds’ commitment to build on this season.

The 24-year-old holding midfielder will replace Emre Can in the squad, but will also put captain Jordan Henderson‘s role into question.

Not involved in Brazil’s World Cup squad, it means the new signing will have a full pre-season alongside the likes of Keita and Virgil van Dijk to adapt to his new surroundings.

Capable of playing in a three-man midfield, or alongside another midfielder in a 4-2-2-2 shape, Fabinho will add a wealth of options to Jurgen Klopp‘s squad.
