If it’s a joke, it’s not a very funny one – Daniel Sturridge has suffered yet another injury, this time a hamstring issue, ruling him out of the Reds’ Christmas fixtures.
Rumours of the latest injury, sustained while playing the final half an hour against Newcastle on Sunday, spread via social media on Tuesday evening and was confirmed at 10.30pm by all the major news outlets.
“Another day, another injury setback for Daniel Sturridge,” reports the Guardian‘s Andy Hunter. “The Liverpool striker is set for a further spell on the sidelines after scans revealed the 26-year-old suffered a hamstring strain during Sunday’s 2-0 defeat at Newcastle United.
There’s a mixture of anger, frustration and sympathy for the player.
Daniel Sturridge's latest setback is a hamstring strain. His fitness record beyond a joke now for #LFC fans

The two sides of Sturridge: four goals in just 346 mins this term – one less than the top tally at #LFC. Goals guaranteed, but not games.

Absolutely zero sense in hanging onto Sturridge if you can get a good fee with his 150000 a week better going towards a fit striker

But I am *genuinely* gutted for Sturridge. Can only imagine the turmoil he must be going through.

Using a Fast twitch player without a solid base of fitness as a sub with a limited warm up is playing with fire

Sturridge constantly injured. Benteke doesn't fit the system. Origi very raw.
That's why top 4 will be very difficult still to get. #LFC

I'm still sticking by #Sturridge 100% though. Just need to buy a similarly elite forward. If we can find and afford one.

As frustrating as it is its Not Sturridge's fault he's injured, cant be easy for the lad either so can't see why he's getting stick off some

liver1 in the forums writes:
I dont think we should report Sturridges injuries, we should report his fitness periods as news instead.

Plenty were left pondering Liverpool’s options, and whether to sign a new forward.
So Sturridge out again. Time to buy someone who we can rely on. Otherwise season will end up being one great frustration that is Benteke.
