Liverpool produced a superb display to dispatch of champions Manchester City 2-1 at Anfield on Sunday. We round-up the best social media reaction from the game.
This was arguably the Reds’ finest performance of the season, given the 120 minutes of gruelling football they played against Besiktas on Thursday evening.
Many of those same players were in the team against Manuel Pellegrini’s men, but performed admirably. Stunning efforts from Jordan Henderson and Philippe Coutinho gained Brendan Rodgers’ side all three points, strengthening their top-four aspirations further.
There are now just 7 points separating Liverpool and Man City in the Premier League table. The gap was 17 points on the 1st of January. #LFC

Coutinho was majestic on the day, and a deserved recipient of the Man of the Match award, but special praise also needs to go to Joe Allen, who was quite brilliant in the middle of the park.
Liverpool have now lost just one Premier League game since mid-December, and the turnaround they have made since the turn of the year has been remarkable.
Here is how fans, journalists and ex-players reacted to the win on social media:
FT: #LFC 2 #MCFC 1: Massive victory for the Reds. Right up there with the very best of Rodgers' Anfield reign. Herculean effort.

Either Liverpool were really good or City are running out of steam. I'll go with the former. What a win. What goals.

Henderson improving and improving as captain. Our most important player? I think so! #LFC

Well done lads fantastic second half performance, beautiful strike by Coutino and a special mention to Joe Allen was excellent today, best performance for me in a red shirt.
GET IN THERE! Absolutely magnificent victory, and performance, by Liverpool. Coutinho mesmeric, Allen equally brilliant. #LFC

Massive team performance. I know there were many many great individual performances, but I for one would like to say that I was really worried when I saw Lovren starting and I thought he did a really good job for us today. “WE GO AGAIN”!
Tottenham at home, Southampton away and Man City at home. Nine points. #LFC

Joe Allen was very good today, his contribution often goes unnoticed but he was outstanding

‘ChicagoRed’ on the forums:
Incredible performance from Coutinho and Allen. 10/10. Defensive shape and work is incredible holding to City to one shot on goal. They probably could have done better with a couple of chances at the end, but we survived.
Unbeaten now in 11 matches. Incredible.
Great result for LFC. City all but out of all competitions in February. Criminal with the squad they assembled, got to make major changes.

Some fantastic individual performances, but collectively we wanted it and fought more than City, that was the most pleasing bit. What a win.
