Liverpool and Arsenal are in with a chance of signing Norwegian superstar Martin Odegaard, according to sports journalist Marius Skelbaek.
The 16-year-old is one of the hottest young properties in European football at the moment, and has been visiting some of Europe’s biggest clubs in recent months in order to decide his next destination.
Although it appears the attacking midfielder’s most likely port of call will be Spain, Germany or Holland, Skelbaek is not ruling out a move to Anfield.
“I think maybe Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are leading the race to sign him and the latest rumour is that Martin is going to visit the Dutch talent industry this month; clubs like Ajax,” he told Sky Sports News HQ.
“Dutch football could suit him right now and a lot of young players from Denmark and Sweden go to clubs like Ajax, Feyenoord or PSV Eindhoven and do great.
“But it is possible he will move to England. He has been visiting all the big clubs in the Premier League. He is a big Liverpool fan. They are his and his father’s favourite club.
“So who knows? Maybe he could sign for Arsenal, Liverpool, Bayern Munich or Real Madrid.”
Liverpool have been tracking Odegaard’s progress for a while now, and the fact that, as mentioned, he is a boyhood Reds fanatic could potentially work in the club’s favour.
It may come down to how big a part money plays in an eventual deal though, and sadly that appears to be the deciding factor when it comes to transfers these days.
Liverpool wouldn’t be able to compete with some of the continent’s heavyweight sides in that respect, which may scupper their chances greatly.
