On Thursday night, Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio revealed that MLS side LA Galaxy have made a contract offer to Steven Gerrard, who’s current deal with Liverpool runs out at the end of the season.
Just hours after scoring two first half penalties in Liverpool’s disappointing 2-2 draw with Leicester City at Anfield, the Reds skipper’s future is the subject of increased speculation.
At 34-years-old and with Liverpool competing to be consistently among the top four of the Premier League and Champions League participators, many have questioned Gerrard’s ability to contribute to the team.
Liverpool fans have taken to social media to react to the news that Gerrard, who made his debut for the Reds in 1998, could be set to end his one-club status and leave Anfield.
Gerrard has scored 180 goals in 695 appearances for Liverpool so far, helping the club to one European Cup, one UEFA Cup, two FA Cups, three League Cups and two UEFA Super Cups.
We’ve rounded up a selection of reactions from fans below, which is mostly an accepting of facts but nostalgic appreciation of one of the club’s greatest ever players.
Let us know your thoughts on Gerrard’s potential move to LA Galaxy in the comments section below, or for more in-depth and general discussion, head to our Liverpool FC forums.
Every single Liverpool legend that you can think of has had to leave or retire at some point. Gerrard is no different. Circle of life etc.

Don't think anyone will ever match what Gerrard's done for LFC. Will always remain my favourite player ever

Always been Robbie Keane's childhood dream to be Steven Gerrard's captain on the Premier League Retirement Home team

Privileged to watch Gerrard's entire #LFC career. Was there in Istanbul to see him pick up big ears. Best ever player & legend.

If #Gerrard is going I'll wager #lfc centre halves and his knackered and harassed midfield runners will breathe a private sigh of relief

I remember when Barnes left. At the end of his 10th season at the club he was just eventually told they wouldnt be renewing his contract.

Good luck to Steven Gerrard, he's been with us through loads of ups & downs but all good things must come to an end. Let's keep it amicable.

Gerrard – Carried moderate LFC teams like Robson's United. In prime form, he'd excel in any side. Never had a team befitting his talent

Not every legends career ends as cleanly as Carras. But they do all end. As much as we will always adore them, the club must move on #Legend

In his prime Gerrard could have played for any team in world. He never turned his back on #LFC. It will be a very sad day when he leaves.

Among the many issues SG leaving raises is how you replace him – that influence on and off the pitch. Buy young, buy potential? Big ask.

Steven Gerrard is possibly the greatest player in the history of #LFC. I wish him all the best.
