Liverpool’s squad for Wednesday’s Champions League clash with Basel has been announced, and it makes for interesting reading.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has left defender Mamadou Sakho out of his squad for Wednesday’s crucial Champions League game against Basel.
The 24-year-old Frenchman has presumably been axed for disciplinary reasons, after he left Anfield prior to Saturday’s Merseyside derby with Everton, having been left out of the matchday squad.
Sakho’s omission raises more question marks about his future at the club, with Martin Skrtel and Dejan Lovren clearly Rodgers’ preferred centre-back pairing at the moment, and Kolo Toure third-choice.
Daniel Sturridge out of Liverpool's trip to Basle through injury. Mamadou Sakho is fit but has been left out of the squad.

What Sakho did was pathetic, not at all surprised that he's been left out. If you wanna fight for your place, fight for it- don't drive away

Sakho was bang out of order, but he's being misused. How did Kolo Toure, who was dreadful the game previous, deserve to be on the bench?

The other noticeable absentee for the trip to Switzerland is Daniel Sturridge, who has failed to recover from the hamstring injury that has kept him out since the start of the month.
It is unknown whether the 25-year-old will be back in time for Saturday’s clash with West Brom at Anfield, but with another international break looming, it will be interesting to see how Rodgers deals with the situation.
Will he risk his star striker picking up a further knock on England duty once again?
Confirmation of Liverpool’s full squad ahead of Wednesday’s game will be announced on the site shortly.
