A lacklustre Liverpool performance saw another two points dropped, and fans were left frustrated with another setback in the title race.
West Ham 1-1 Liverpool
Premier League, London Stadium
February 4, 2018
Goals: Antonio 28′; Mane 22′
The Reds endured a frustrating evening at the London Stadium as sloppiness reigned supreme for Jurgen Klopp‘s men.
Sadio Mane edged Liverpool into the lead against the run of play, but it was to be a rare moment of quality from the Reds as a performance lacking a cutting edge followed against a plucky West Ham outfit.
The home side soon found themselves level through Michail Antonio as the Reds’ defence was found wanting from a set-piece for the second game running, ensuring another two points were dropped.
Here’s how supporters reacted to the result on social media and our forums.
Mane opened the scoring and was one of the few standouts on the night…
Sadio Mané looks Liverpool’s most dangerous player tonight. Just as he did against Leicester.

Sadio Mané gets a moon pie. Everyone else gets a paddlin'. pic.twitter.com/7BQXVtyThM

Mane out there on his own right now.

The midfield struggled to assert themselves on proceedings in the absence of a number of key players…
Really, really not happening for Naby Keita in a Liverpool shirt at the moment is it? Surprised how frequently I get tweets calling for him to be in the team given his performances.

Our midfield is being torn to shreds

”Our midfield is where?”
– Noo Noo on the forums.
Abysmal half that. Unbelievably sloppy on the ball, defence all over the place and midfield non-existent.

“Can’t remember too many games without both Hendo and Gini and it’s showing. No control in midfield whatsoever. We need to lift our level.” – Clive on the forums.
Oh I see, Keita is the new scapegoat

With only one clean sheet in the last seven games, the defence came under question from fans…
I miss clean sheets

I do have to admit that the thought of this defense without VVD terrifies me.

This Liverpool defensive set up for free kicks with all 10 players narrow, in a line and standing square is baffling
— Jonathan Northcroft (@JNorthcroft) February 4, 2019
Second best so far. Really need to sort out the marking on those set pieces.
— Jimmy (@EntireDesign_) February 4, 2019
This is the issue. Not our attack. Keep a clean sheet today. We win. https://t.co/KLj1fEh1vH

Liverpool have now conceded more goals in their last 6 Premier League games than the previous 19.
Tragic.

And there was a mixed response at the result as some voiced their frustrations and questioned how the Reds will respond, while some looked for the positives…
Right, so there we have it. Three points the margin. Have away with your pessimism, this is where you back a team more than ever. That draw wasn’t good enough, but it happens. Time to really, really want this as a collective now. #LFCdigest
— Danny Gallagher (@Danny7Gallagher) February 4, 2019
Not really good enough. Have really missed Trent. Constant (forced) changes to midfield not helpin either. That said, #LFC not playing with any conviction at the moment.

FT: West Ham 1 #LFC 1: Liverpool edge 3pts clear of Man City at the top of the PL table after a second successive stalemate. Didn't deserve anything more in the capital. Poor display. Lacked belief and conviction. Injuries biting.

Liverpool do not look the same team of six weeks ago. The question was asked after beating Arsenal whether they could handle pressure; it's certainly fair to say an element of tension has crept into their play ?

“Still in our hands…the pressure of playing after City has proven greater… Injuries not doing us any favours….still in our hands, maybe this is the wake up call we needed heading into 3 crucial weeks for us…” – Njabulo Cele on Facebook.
So deflated watching that performance. Waited years to be in such a good position and it felt like there was a lack of urgency tonight. Far too timid in possession.

Never looked at our best. Going through the sticky patch Not as fluent going forward. Missing some key pieces defensively. Still 3 points clear
— keith costigan (@KeithCostigan) February 4, 2019
That bench tonight is a disgrace. Injuries happen of course but every season Klopp’s been here we’ve been struggling for numbers at some point. Criminal not to invest in January and echoes of 09 and 14.
