Liverpool have reached the Champions League knockout stages in dramatic fashion, overcoming Napoli 1-0 at Anfield.
Liverpool 1-0 Napoli
Champions League, Anfield
December 11, 2018
Goals: Salah (34′)
The Reds were superb on a huge night on Merseyside, outplaying their opponents and defending heroically in a crazy finale.
Mohamed Salah‘s 13th goal of the season sent Jurgen Klopp‘s side through, but a last-gasp Alisson save was equally crucial.
Liverpool can now focus on Sunday’s Premier League clash with Man United, although they should enjoy every second of the post-match celebrations.
Here’s how supporters reacted to the match on social media and our forums, with fans in unsurprisingly jubilant mood.
A brilliant display was lauded at the final whistle, as Liverpool’s wonderful season continues…

FT: #LFC 1 Napoli 0: Amazing scenes at Anfield. Liverpool through to the last 16 of the CL. Salah's goal the difference. Wasted a stack of chances before a stunning late save from Alisson.

It hasn’t always been pretty, but top of the league and qualified in an absolute crocodile pit of a Champions League group. Suffice to say, that’s decent.

“Awesome team performance, great win great night. Anfield atmosphere does it again, YNWA.” – Ray Clarke on Facebook.
“We’re through! Love the chemistry and passion in this squad. YNWA” – Breeze10 on the forums.
Totally spent after that! World class players win games like that and #LFC now have them all over the pitch. This team is growing all the time.

Getting a 1-0 win when you only need a 1-0 win is so very the opposite of the Liverpool I’m used to that I’m gonna need to lie down for a minute
— nate (@natefc) December 11, 2018
#LFC have kept 15 clean sheets in their last 19 home games in all competitions.

Liverpool did it the hard way by missing so many chances but what maturity and spirit they showed to control Napoli for most of this game. Beaten finalists (in May) and League leaders (now) don't go out in the group stage.

Salah was yet again Liverpool’s match-winner and supporters heaped praise on him and many others…
Goal or Big Chance created every 82mins this season for Mo

Well , Salah for sure isn't 'one season wonder' , but rather is a wonderful football player.
Colossal performance , was everywhere on the pitch and motm for me .
Absolutely brilliant @MoSalah ??#lfc #ynwa #livnap #ucl— the Ned (@the2ned) December 11, 2018
Great performance by the reds tonight Mo Salah doing what he does best and VVD and Alisson have made their price tags look like pocket change this season. Top of the league and through to the CL knockouts not a bad few days at all bring on the mancs now #LFC

and before I forget, a word for @andrewrobertso5 tonight. Been superb at both ends of the pitch.

“Three standout players for me – Alisson, Robertson and believe it or not Henderson too, he stepped up tonight with a very good performance”John MacGhabhain on Facebook.
“Gini and Milner bossed the midfield.” – Barnestormer on the forums.
Some of the best performances Van Dijk and Robertson have ever put in. Wijnaldum a rock in the middle in those dying minutes. Referee and his officials absolutely diabolical, embarrassments. Onwards for the Reds. #LFCdigest

Alisson and Van Dijk are proof that it doesn’t matter what you pay, it’s what you get for it. Both priceless.
— Dan (@Dan23_92) December 11, 2018
Philippe Coutinho was the star of the final CL group game 12 months ago. He went for £146m and with the fee, LFC bought Alisson and Virgil van Dijk. The business has made them a better team.
— Dominic King (@DominicKing_DM) December 11, 2018
MoM Matip for me. Van Dijk & Alisson very very good. Salah the match winner and a big threat.

Trent Alexander-Arnold v Napoli.
6 (six) key passes.
5/6 crosses completed.
91 involvements (more than any other player) pic.twitter.com/9eSVIz26zG— James Nalton (@JDNalton) December 11, 2018
And credit where is due, Joel Matip played like fucking Sami Hyypia today. It was like watching Insigne play vs a bloody iceberg. #LIVNAP #LFC

Last year the goalkeeper and defense cost us points, now they’re winning them.
I’ve never seen such a turnaround in such a short space of time.

Alisson’s save saw a special amount of adoration rightly saved for the Brazilian…
As good as Salah’s goal was, it would’ve been nothing more than a consolation but for a sensational save from Alisson. Another top draw performance for him tonight. Well worth the money.

Bloody hell, Liverpool know how to make it difficult. Resilient performance, should’ve put it to bed a lot sooner, but Alisson I bow down to you, what a save that was!
— Joanna Durkan (@JoannaDurkan_) December 11, 2018
Didn’t think it made sense paying that much for keeper but absolutely delighted I got that one wrong. He’s absolutely brilliant. He’s probably made his fee back already.
— Phil Blundell (@PhilBlundell) December 11, 2018
I've not yet seen Alisson make a truly breathtaking save but he always seems to be in the right place at the right time to keep the ball out of the net. I prefer that actually coz I think it's more sustainable.
