Liverpool have completed the signing of Swiss forward Xherdan Shaqiri for £13.75 million, and fans are mostly happy with his arrival.
The 26-year-old becomes the third signing of the summer following Fabinho and Naby Keita, arriving to add much-needed depth to Jurgen Klopp‘s attack.
The manager himself called it a “no brainer” and that’s how most fans see the signing too.
The new Reds’ No.23 will fly out with the squad to America next Saturday, having interrupted his post-World Cup holiday to head to Merseyside on Thursday evening and complete his medical and media duties on Friday.
Most fans highlighted the bargain nature of the signing
Think Shaqiri will prove a bargain for that fee. Quality squad option to lessen the burden on Mané and Salah, loads of experience at a high level and a potential game changer off the bench. Really smart piece of business.

Shaqiri for £2m less than Jordon Ibe.

I think Shaquiri will need to adapt his game a little to fit into Klopp's #LFC. But at 26 he is a very good addition and great value for money. Has always had the talent – no better manager than Klopp to get the very best out of him.

Absolute no-brainer signing Shaqiri at £13m, amazing that #LFC had a free run at him. Loan out Wilson and Woodburn and, if they come back ready, double our money on the re-sale. #brilliantbusiness

8 goals and 7 assists in the worst team last season. Very tidy buisness this. I remember wanting him to sign some years back and was gutted we didn’t get him. Reckon he’ll be a class act especially with our quality players around him..??

Think Shaqiri will do well here. Happy with that signing.

Shaqiri is a fucking unit. Sturridge will pull a hamstring just looking at him.

We used to buy young inexperienced players as squad players cos we were not in the CL and couldnt attract top talent, now we get players like Xherdan to come and sit on the bench ! but with the CL, FA, LC and league, he will get games, and make an impression….. look forward to see him ripping open a few stubborn defences. Times are really good for LFC right now. Enjoy the change in fortunes, embrace the change etc..

? Farewell Xherdan. The kind of footballer you go to games for. Our biggest ‘rock the city’ signing, traction engine of a left foot, did mad shit and carried us way too often. https://t.co/SooLd9QwN2

One fan rightly highlighted the strange reaction from some who were somehow seeing a negative in the signing:
Plastic fan in 2017 : the squad has no depth #KloppOut
Plastic fan in 2018 : I didn’t want Shaqiri #KloppOut
ffs get a grip– Nicolas Doyle on Facebook
With Shaqiri adding to Fabinho and Keita, now fans want two more signings:
Fekir and a keeper basically and I think we'd be done. There were rumours/are rumours we're keen on a CB as well.

We are moving in right direction let’s get fekir deal done and a goal keeper, then we are good to go.
