Peter Crouch retirement has Liverpool fans nostalgic for his finest goals in red

Peter Crouch announced his retirement on Friday and got fans in a nostalgic mood remembering his impressive contribution as a Liverpool player.

The lanky striker was a fan favourite during his time at Anfield, a classy player with bags of ability and an eye for goal, as well as plenty of smiles and humour.

It wasn’t all plain sailing for Crouch at Liverpool, as he took a long time to get going in terms of goalscoring—but once he found the back of the net against Wigan after more than 1200 minutes without a goal, he quickly added a second in the same game.

Crouch went on to score 42 for the Reds in his three years at the club—and as a video posted by LFCTV attests to, he certainly had an eye for the spectacular.

The top-ranked strike isn’t a surprise and is one every Liverpool supporter associates with the former No. 15: an incredible scissor-kick in the Champions League against Galatasaray, which Crouchy himself named as his second-best goal ever.

But even before reaching that one, there are plenty of others to sit back and admire with a smile.

A brilliantly taken goal in the Merseyside derby, a header against Man United—Crouch knew how to come up with key strikes in the biggest of games.

His hat-trick against Arsenal will live long in the memory, too, given it was a ‘perfect’ treble: right foot, header and his skillful, brilliant left-footer to finish up with.

Further strikes against PSV, another against Arsenal and that second against Wigan also make the top 10 list.

Of course, the scissor-kick against Galatasaray wasn’t the only time he achieved the feat; he did the exact same thing against Bolton soon after.

Crouch scored four against Arsenal all told, more than against any other side, while 11 of his goals came in the Champions League, again showcasing his prowess on the biggest stage.

He was part of the squad which reached, and lost, the 2007 European Cup final, while he also won the 2006 FA Cup with the Reds.

Crouch was an enjoyable player with a song which highlighted how much the fans valued and admired him; his feet might not stick out the bed anymore, but he’s certainly big and he was definitely red.
