Liverpool returned to the top of the Premier League table after securing a dramatic 2-1 victory over Fulham on Sunday.
Fulham 1-2 Liverpool
Premier League, Craven Cottage
March 17, 2019
Goals: Babel 74′; Mane 26′, Milner pen 81′
Liverpool’s first visit to Craven Cottage since 2014 saw Jurgen Klopp‘s men get off to a slow start, only for the Reds’ man of the moment to inject a much-needed spark midway through the first half.
An exquisite one-two with Roberto Firmino saw Sadio Mane smash the ball into the back of the net to record his 11th goal in as many games.
The Reds controlled proceedings with ease for much of the opening 45, but their wastefulness in possession gave the home side a glimmer of hope.
And former Reds winger Ryan Babel was the man to capitalise on an inability to put the game beyond reach after taking advantage of a series of errors at the back.
But a late penalty converted by James Milner ensured the Reds left London with all three points and returned to the top of the Premier League table.
Here’s how supporters reacted to the result on social media and on our forums.
Mane earned plenty of praise as he netted yet another goal…

Sadio Mané has now opened the scoring in eight Premier League games this season.
Only Salah (9) from any club has done so more times (Aguero also 8).

Mané's 11 goals in these last 11 games: five right-footed, three left-footed, three headers. versatile.

Fans lamented Liverpool’s wastefulness at half-time…
Our passing and interplay needs to improve massively

Dominated the ball but it’s been pretty sloppy. Only moment of good play led to the goal. Just need to find the final pass.

““We seriously need to improve our passing in the final third.”
– indianscouser on the forums.
In control 1st half, solid but at times we've been guilty of treating the game as a training session. A bit more drive & desire and we'd have a couple more goals to go with all the possession.

“Winning but very wasteful. Hope we don’t pay the price.”
– Kyaw Phyu Aung on Facebook.
Weird half. So in control but very sloppy at times.
Lallana ineffective on the ball but good off it.

And the Reds paid the price, with Milner, Van Dijk & Alisson taking the criticism…
Too casual throughout and the Fulham goal epitomised that. Big 15 mins now.

Shocking but no more than we deserve.”
– Barry O’Connor on the forums.
Alisson been brilliant this season, but brain freeze there. Should have come, definitely should have caught the header. #LFC

Alisson at fault for theirs I reckon (looking at it again)

But fans were quick to forgive Milner after converting from the penalty spot…
Potentially season defining penalty for Liverpool and James Milner is ice cool to convert it. Mr Reliable from the spot.

“Milner is so reliable.”

And relief was the overwhelming feeling for fans as the Reds secured a dramatic win…
Do it the hard way, do it the easy way, do it any way you can. Terrible mistake to concede, but character has to come through. Spirit and desire endured with this one. Liverpool, top of the league. #LFCdigest
