A 2-1 defeat to PSG leaves Liverpool needing to beat Napoli by a two-goal margin at Anfield in order to avoid a group stage exit from the Champions League.
PSG 2-1 Liverpool
Champions League Group Stage (5), Parc des Princes
November 28, 2018
Goals: Bernat 13′, Neymar 37′; Milner pen 45+1′
The Reds arrived in Paris needing a victory to effectively ensure progress to the last 16 of Europe’s top-tier tournament, but leave having suffered a humbling loss.
Goals from Juan Bernat and Neymar saw the hosts take a comfortable lead in the first half, only for James Milner to claw one back from the penalty spot.
The referee’s initial call for the spot-kick was for a corner, and Szymon Marciniak struggled throughout the night—including showing a yellow for a red-card foul on Joe Gomez from Marco Verratti.
But regardless, PSG were the better side at the Parc des Princes, and here’s how Liverpool fans vented their frustrations on Facebook, Twitter and our forums.
Fans were far from pleased with the midfield trio of Henderson, Wijnaldum and Milner…
PSG waltzing through Liverpool's midfield at the moment.

“Get Henderson and Gini off and bring some creativity on. They’re both getting bypassed.”
– Gareth Roberts on Facebook.
This midfield performance reminds me of a time we had both Poulsen and Joe Cole gracing the pitch. Together. #PSGLIV #LFC

“The midfield just isn’t up to it at this level.”
– abcd on the forums.
Think Henderson, Milner and Wijnaldum has been Klopp’s safe & trusted midfield all season, tonight showed that they don’t have the guile to go toe-to-toe with a top side.
Never liked Klopp conservative, give Keita and Fabinho a chance to shine.

Alisson was one of the few who performed well…
Alisson Becker MoM by a mile for us
— DanKennett.bsky.social (@DanKennett) November 28, 2018
Wow. What a save from Alisson!
— Scott (@RedsOrDead) November 28, 2018
Alisson is being let down, only player keeping us in this at the moment

The referee was appalling…
Is this referee a professional or was he just picked out from the crowd before kickoff?

“At least the assistant is actually watching the game, unlike the referee…”
– Vincent Chow on Facebook.
Neymar has just been given a free kick for falling over after shooting. Genuinely.

“How on earth did Verratti not get a red card in that game?”
– Bob8 on the forums.
Verratti surely had to be a red?
And can’t believe the Ref needed his assistant to tell him it was a penalty.?— Michael Owen (@themichaelowen) November 28, 2018
Neymar’s theatrics left many unimpressed…
Neymar's never been my business before I guess but God he's easy to take against
— Steve Graves (@steve_graves) November 28, 2018
By the way the antics of PSG were a disgrace!neymar brings the game into disrepute!!!

Liverpool were far too slow and lacked creativity…
“No real creativity in such a workmanlike midfield.”
– Derek Duvall on Facebook.

Nothing from the midfield going forward. It's embarrassing to watch. We are dampening down the speed on counters ourselves with this tactic.
Need to yank Henderson off and get some of Shaqiri's urgency on. #PSGLFC #LFC

“Mane and Salah tried but they didn’t have much creativity to feed off.”
– Yo55arian22 on the forums.
Liverpool have it all to do to stay in the Champions League now…
Liverpool are now in a similar position to 2004/05 having to beat Napoli (Olympiakos) by two goals to qualify. Liverpool won 3-1 and went on to lift the Cup. Can history repeat itself?
— Artur Petrosyan (@arturpetrosyan) November 28, 2018
“Liverpool 3-1 Napoli…we can do this!”
– Adon Andrews on Facebook.
Thought we played well except for the first 30 mins or so. We'll beat Napoli 2-0+ anyways
