Andy Robertson was one of the few to emerge with credit from Liverpool’s defeat at PSG, but the left-back is only looking forward to team-wide improvements.
The left-back was typically strong in the challenge and got forward as much as could be expected, though his own end product was lacking at times.
Despite that, he was one of the Reds’ better performers and knows the entire team must improve if Jurgen Klopp‘s side are to progress to the last 16.
Liverpool need a win over Napoli in the final group game, either 1-0 or by two goals, and Robertson told Liverpoolfc.com that the Reds must have faith when the Serie A side come to town.
“We know how hard it is going to be against Napoli but we believe.”
“We believe at Anfield that we can create special nights and we will need our fans and need everyone behind us, and if we can create a special atmosphere then I’m sure the players will react and hopefully we can get the result we deserve.
“We never do it the easy way. The last campaign we were stronger through the group stage but we had to win in the last game and managed it, so it’s the same this time.”
Even before then, though, there is work to do for the Reds to rediscover form and confidence.
That couldn’t be made more apparent than by the fact Liverpool face Everton in the Merseyside derby on Sunday, a must-win game in any season, let alone one where the team has title aspirations.
Robertson feels the relentless nature of the fixture list is a bonus for the Reds in this case and has urged his team-mates to step up.
“That’s the beauty of our league,” he added. “Watford was a tough game on Saturday and now we look forward to the Merseyside derby on Sunday.
“It’s another massive game and we can bounce back straight away. We’ll be looking to do that, we know how big the game is and hopefully we can step up to the occasion.”
Winning will not just earn Liverpool local superiority for the fans, but keep them firmly in the title race.
A consistent ability to take three points is imperative in the Premier League this season, especially with Man City having done exactly that of late in a comparitive situation: their home derby fixture, a 3-1 win over Man United.
Robertson will be a key performer for the Reds on Sunday at Anfield and Klopp will hope a few more of his team-mates turn up with a similarly committed display.
