Liverpool winger Ryan Kent has joined Rangers on a season-long loan, becoming the second player to make the temporary switch to Steven Gerrard‘s side.
Kent was left out of Jurgen Klopp‘s squad for this month’s pre-season tour of the United States, with the Reds in talks with their Glasgow counterparts over a move.
After a difficult campaign in 2017/18, struggling for game time with both Freiburg and Bristol City, the 21-year-old will be hoping for more success in the Scottish Premiership.
There he joins Ovie Ejaria as part of Rangers’ on-loan Liverpool contingent, as well as with ex-Reds full-back Jon Flanagan and a host of coaching staff.
That includes first-team coach Michael Beale who, speaking to Sky Sports in 2017, described Kent as a player who could “go on to be a top player in the Premier League for Liverpool, England and beyond.”
Working under Gerrard, Beale and Gary McAllister should provide Kent with a better opportunity to fulfil his potential.
Speaking to RangersTV on sealing his deal, he said: “I want to get back to enjoying my football again.”
“When the opportunity came around to join a club of this magnitude, it was a bit of a no-brainer,” Kent explained.
“They have got a person in charge now in Steven Gerrard who has played at the highest level and achieved many great things.
“To learn from him is great, and I already know some of the players here. To have Michael Beale here too, he got the best out of me in under-23s football at Liverpool.
“So I think it is a really exciting move for me, and I am looking forward to the opportunity.”
