Joe Gomez has spoken glowingly about Jordan Henderson‘s influence both on and off the pitch, as the praise for the Liverpool skipper continues.
Henderson will take to the field for England on Wednesday night as they look to defeat Dejan Lovren‘s Croatia and reach the World Cup final.
It is arguably the biggest game of the 28-year-old’s career, along with May’s Champions League final against Real Madrid.
Henderson’s performances in Russia have received sweeping plaudits, with a more widespread audience finally appreciating what he brings to the team.
Gomez knows full well how important his club captain is, though, whether it be his quality as a player or his class as a human being, as he told the Mail:
“Hendo is way more than just what you see on the pitch.
“I’m thankful I’ve had the chance to join a club of this magnitude under a skipper like him.
“He has the perfect balance of being a dominant captain while being one of the most approachable people in the dressing room.
“He’s personally looked out for me during some tough times and also on the pitch has demanded the best from each of us continuously.
“On the pitch his passion sets the guidelines for us all, but off it his thought to detail for all of our emotions goes way past what I think most would realise!
“I’m buzzing he’s getting the recognition he deserves.”
Henderson is England’s vice-captain, with the main honour going to Harry Kane, but he is the one to have rallied the troops during the World Cup.
Wednesday will be his biggest test yet as he comes up against a Croatia midfield including Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic.
Victory will leave Henderson and his England colleagues one win away from international immortality and in a first World Cup final since 1966.
