Liverpool produced one of their great European performances, dispatching of Man City 3-0 in an epic Champions League quarter-final clash.
Liverpool 3–0 Man City
Champions League, Anfield
April 4, 2018
Goals: Salah 12′, Oxlade-Chamberlain 20′, Mane 31′
This was a night that made you immensely proud to support the Reds, as they comprehensively defeated the most in-form team in Europe.
Mohamed Salah opened the scoring, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain thundered home a second and Sadio Mane headed in a third, as Liverpool ran riot in the first-half.
They then defended resolutely after the break, keeping a clean-sheet against a team full of world-class attacking talent.
It was an evening to cherish, and leaves Jurgen Klopp‘s side in pole position to reach the semi-finals.
Here’s how supporters reacted to the win across social media and on our forums.
The result was met with unbridled joy from anyone of a Reds persuasion, with talk of it being a truly legendary display…
Devastating in the first half, dogged in the second. That was one hell of a performance. Trent was phenomenal.

Genuinely feel like I played in that. Exhausted. We get one goal in the next leg and we’re through. What a performance from them. Buzzing.

It’s been said that the history of the club is sometimes a weight on the shoulders of the players. Today they drew on it and created their own great Anfield night ???

Fortress of Anfield! Champions league quarter-finals, unforgettable 3-0 win over Man City… wow! #lfc pic.twitter.com/NIk9wnEDpF

What a brilliant half…the second 45. That was quite possibly a coming-of-age performance from this side who have been rightly ridiculed for past ridiculousness at the back—but denied the best team in the league a single shot on target. Great work rate & concentration. #LFC

Earth-shattering result, only slightly tarnished by Mo’s injury.
Somehow, they played right into our hands. What a fantastic night…I thought the stadium was gonna implode after Ox rifled that one in.

Glad I’m not doing player ratings because it would feel harsh to give any Liverpool player less than 10.

Remember when they said it wouldn't affect them. It affects everyone ?

One of the most impressive results ever for Liverpool. Unreal performance, and every single individual genuinely bordering on 10/10.
To keep a clean-sheet and blitz that City team in the same game is beyond belief.
Incredible night.

That is so so impressive Liverpool! Such a professional display, outplayed City! Now onto the Etihad ? #LFC

Jurgen Klopp orchestrated a win over one of the most expensively assembled squads ever with the game finishing with 2/3rd’s of his forward level being Moreno and Solanke

Absolutely brilliant and Imperious European performance from all of our lads.

Good luck getting any sleep tonight #buzzing

People doubt the effect of the Anfield atmosphere, just look at tonight. City stunned, Liverpool electric in the first half and resilient in the second. An unbelievable performance and result that sends a message to the rest of Europe.

Manchester City did not have a shot on target at Anfield.
That is something. Something major.

Honestly, I'm in shock. Not as much shock as Pep and his players probably are, but that was just … exquisite.

There was special praise for the magnificent Trent Alexander-Arnold, who responded unbelievably well after some criticism of late…
Lovren, Van Dijk, Henderson and Milner all exceptional, but felt like a defining, defiant performance from Trent Alexander-Arnold. Identified before the game as a weakness, targeted by City, up against their best player, and came through it.
— Rory Smith (@RorySmith) April 4, 2018
Trent Alexander Arnold and Andrew Robertson produced two of the most competent full-back performances which #LFC fans haven't seen in over a decade.

Everyone, including me, owes Trent Alexander-Arnold and apology tonight.
— Tom McMahon (@tomjpmac) April 4, 2018
I just said to Trent Alexander-Arnold What's that in your pocket? He said Huh? What are you talking about James? I said It's Leroy Sané. It was so funny.
— Boring Milner (@BoringMilner) April 4, 2018
In my analysis in the Palace game, I voiced my concerns over Trent Alexander-Arnold against Leroy Sane.
Public apology is necessary, I feel.
Possibly a career-defining performance. If he can do it on a night like that, when can't he do it?
— Kristian Walsh (@Kristian_Walsh) April 4, 2018
TAA and OX, what a performance from those two. Picked TAA but damn OX is leaving his mark in the last 2 city matches. Amazing strikes.

Trent Alexander-Arnold was absolutely majestic tonight! #LFC

Christ that was a nerve-shredding end. Every #LFC man played a part tonight but special recognition for this man… pic.twitter.com/ArW1SswTqj

Where’s all the Trent haters at? ?
— The Redmen TV (@TheRedmenTV) April 4, 2018
Trent has probably got a spot in the England team booked now.
— LFCZA ?? (@LFCZA) April 4, 2018
A reminder that Trent Alexander-Arnold is only 19.
— Red (@TaintlessRed) April 4, 2018
The youngster wasn’t the only player earning plenty of plaudits, however, on an evening almost every player was perfect…

Lovren and Henderson. Both have had plenty of criticism this season, but they were magnificent tonight.

James Milner now has 8 assists in this season's Champions League. More than any other player.
— DaveOCKOP (@DaveOCKOP) April 4, 2018
Lovren and Van Dijk exceptional in that second half. Andy Robertson was Andy Robertson, he’s not had a bad game yet for Liverpool.

By the way, I now 100% understand why Klopp refused to buy a centre-back and wanted to wait on Van Dijk. The guy is incredible. He's transformed our defence. Without him, we're conceding a goal tonight. Easily worth £75m.
