Liverpool’s 18-game unbeaten run came to an end as they suffered a 1-0 defeat away to bottom-placed Swansea City on Monday night.
Swansea City 1-0 Liverpool
Premier League, Liberty Stadium
January 22, 2018
Goal: Mawson 40′
Jurgen Klopp made just one change to the side which beat Man City as Virgil van Dijk made his Premier League debut, replacing Dejan Lovren.
Emre Can was handed the captain’s armband with both Jordan Henderson and James Milner sitting out, becoming the Reds’ latest stand-in leader.
But it was bottom-of-the-table Swansea who dealt the first blow when Alfie Mawson took advantage of some sloppy defending at a set-piece.
Liverpool lacked creativity all game and it was a poor performance from Klopp’s side as they slumped to a disappointing 1-0 defeat just a week after beating the league leaders.
Here are all the reactions from supporters following the defeat…
Everybody was excited to see Van Dijk play alongside Can as captain but fans were mixed on their displays…
Emre Can is 100% better as a natural 6. Not sure why Klopp wanted to turn him into an 8, previously.

Actually poor from VVD. Heads it right to a Swansea player in the box.

Completed passes: Emre Can 50. the rest of Liverpool, 4.

Was critical of VVD ask @SamMcGuire90 but what I’ve seen of him so far he’s been immense

Fans were quick to point out that Liverpool lacked creativity in midfield in the absence of Coutinho…
These were always going to be the type of games Coutinho would be missed in most. Midfield far too sedated. Salah having to take on creative responsibility at times instead of being on the end of final balls. Crying out for Lallana, this.

Who would have thought selling our most creative player and not replacing him would affect our, erm, creativity?

I love Klopp, but taking 68 minutes to make a chance here is bewildering. As is taking Ox off, rather than Gini. And why is Gomez still on? There is literally no point in him being on the pitch in this situation.

WTF. Ox coming off??
Take Gini off for god sake

One of those nights where the team were just not at it and Jurgen did his crazy baffling substitution thing.
The rest of this week is going to be so very long and painful. #SWALIV

And it was no surprise that supporters were extremely frustrated at full-time after a terrible performance…
About twice a season, a really terrible game against a weak side comes along. This has been one of them.
A truly appalling performance – not one individual remotely close to their best.

“Atrocious performance. Every pass underhit, overhit, or hit to a Swansea player. What a way to follow up the biggest win of the season…”

Awful. But let’s be honest. Swansea fully fully deserved that. And it’s absolutely no surprise cos this is what Liverpool do season after season.

Beat the team top, lose to the team bottom.
As you do.

“I turned it off. I couldn’t watch. We looked like a relegation side today. Very poor and once again disappointing from us.”
– Juraj on the forums.
You can't beat champions elect 1 week and lose to relegation threatened side the next. It's got nothing to do with the quality of the squad, it's the attitude.
