Liverpool failed to bounce back from their disappointing stalemate at Spartak Moscow as they were held to another 1-1 draw by Newcastle.
Newcastle 1-1 Liverpool
Premier League, St James’ Park
October 1, 2017
Goals: Joselu 36′; Coutinho 30′
Mohamed Salah had early opportunities to open the scoring for the Reds before Dejan Lovren was gifted an excellent opportunity to poke in from five yards out as the ball ricocheted off the post.
Philippe Coutinho broke the deadlock after half an hour however, with a sensational long-distance curler from outside the area.
But Liverpool’s lead didn’t last long as former Reds midfielder Jonjo Shelvey split the defence to play in Joselu.
It was a frustrating second half as Newcastle posed a bigger threat, but Roberto Firmino and Dominic Solanke were sent on in a hopeful attempt to change things from Jurgen Klopp.
Liverpool couldn’t come up with the answers, though, and they had to settle for a disappointing 1-1 draw.
Here are all the reactions from Liverpool fans on social media throughout the match.
Fans were pleased to see Sturridge start, though they were surprised Robertson wasn’t in the squad…
Glad to see Sturridge start given Firmino needs a rest. Interesting Klopp has gone for Gini ahead of Can. https://t.co/LfRXA5WqH3

I’m seriously excited about today’s game. I have no complaints about the starting 11 & I’m going for a 3-0 win for the Reds #LFC

“Robertson not even in the squad, man of the match in his only full game not considered since then, did Klopp want him at Liverpool or was it someone else’s decision to get him from Hull.”

Coutinho is the first Liverpool player to score for three games in a row this season.
The last to do so was…. Coutinho, in April.— Andrew Beasley (@BassTunedToRed) October 1, 2017
That is why you don't sell @Phil_Coutinho #LFC.
— Si Steers (@sisteers) October 1, 2017
It was short-lived though as Liverpool conceded shortly afterwards…
Matip & Lovren. The new chuckle brothers

One damn pass through the middle & they score. Absolute dog sh*t defending

Constant shambles every week. Not signing 3 new defenders absolutely criminal #LFC

LFC's highly rated attack looks blunt. Has done for most of September.

Another game another piece of absolutely moronic defending by Lovren

Christ sake it's so frustrating to watch us lately chances are there but can't convert. Not easily solvable either. Ugh.

We don't seem to have a plan. Can blame the players but the lack of identity comes from the manager.

Most frustrating one of the season that, for me. Think we need to change formation for a few games.
— Olli Emmerson (@Oliver_Emmerson) October 1, 2017
Watford, Burnley, Sevilla, Moscow, Newcastle, all games #LFC would have won with decent defence, negligence biting club right on the arse
