Liverpool have agreed a £35 million deal for Arsenal and England midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, further strengthening Jurgen Klopp‘s squad before the transfer deadline.
The recently turned 24-year-old reportedly turned down a move to Chelsea to move north to Merseyside, with the chance of playing in midfield or as a wide player under Klopp being key to that decision.
While the fee may raise eyebrows given that he was out of contract next summer, fans are mostly just pleased with the addition of a player who looks like they could fulfil their potential under Klopp’s management.
Here’s a selection of what the fans are saying about the signing, with many seeing the positive of adding depth to the squad:
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has the potential to a big signing for #LFC. Deal is 6 years. £35m up front. Thomas Lemar chase ongoing

Always been a big fan of Oxlade-Chamberlain and he'll add some much needed depth to our midfield. Must now go all out for van Dijk.

Happy with AOC, more depth, more pace. All good. Get VVD done and I'm more than happy. Anything else on top of that is a bonus

Dan Nguyen on Facebook:
Depth is key. Its what killed them down the stretch. Ox is going to fit well in to the high press. Kid does have sheer speed. He will fit in very well with klopps tactics
On AOC: I love utility players, and he'd be fine in CM, wide in front three, and RB if needed. huge upgrade on Milner. stay healthy plz.

Incognito in the forums:
We will be really short of players this season, I for one am pretty happy with this signing. He’s fast and versatile, can play under multiple positions and he’ll be coached by Klopp. Gives a good squad depth for the long tiring season.
The best part is he wants to come and will give his 100%. Rejected Chelsea for us. Lads like him are pretty difficult to get these days and believe his head won’t turn easily towards greener pastures once he becomes better. Get in, I say.
Absolutely fine with Ox, but VVD is a must before end of tomorrow before this window is considered a success.

If 35m seems steep for AOC, remember that Gylfi just cost around 50m. Oxlade-Chamberlain could be a very good addition to LFC.

Steve Todd on Facebook:
The market dictates that average players are being sold for £30 Million plus these days !! It’s just the way it is !! Klopp will make him far better than he’s been at Arsenal !
Remember how Lallana was a very good player with no end product until being under Klopp and moving centrally? Think like that.

Sounds like english dirk kuyt. Which is a good thing. Oxlade needs to add more goals to his game though.

The deal also upset Piers Morgan, so that’s a bonus:
Oxlade-Chamberlain isn't worth £40m, but Wenger/Gazidis promised we'd no longer sell to rivals.
They lied.
