Liverpool have rejected Barcelona‘s third bid for midfielder Philippe Coutinho, worth €125 million (£114.2 million), in a big statement of intent.
The Liga side saw their latest approach rebuffed on Friday afternoon, a week after Coutinho handed in a formal transfer request.
Having previously turned down offers of £72 million and £90.4 million, this latest development underlines Liverpool’s resolve in keeping Coutinho, despite his desire to leave.
With the club’s owners the subject of widespread criticism for the Reds’ lack of transfer activity in recent weeks, this serves as a positive step.
And this was reflected in supporters’ reactions to the failed bid on social media.

Statement from owners saying not for sale regardless of price last week. Proving it by turning down bid today #Coutinho

I'll give you £80m for him. Not for sale. What about £90m? Not for sale. I'll give you £114m. Not for sale. Getting the idea yet Barca? #LFC

Can the FSG out lads stop that shite now? https://t.co/LO1Fhjp0Rw— Ian Salmon (@IanRSalmon) August 18, 2017
“Good – finally the club has shown it’s got more balls than just footballs. Now stop sulking lad and do what you are paid 150k a week for!”

Right stance. Like Arsenal/Sanchez. This a market where selling top players has come to look stupid (Matic) and you can't buy replacements. https://t.co/4DPYJKOo9V

Fair to play @LFC standing firm with Coutinho?

Barcelona's timing is no mere coincidence. A new Coutinho bid on the eve of another Liverpool fixture. Forever classless.

Think it's getting very simple for you @FCBarcelona. No amount of money will buy #coutinho. Think you need to go after dembele. ?? #LFC

Huge bid that. Fantastic club said no. Hopefully that puts a lid on it now and Barca move on and we can quickly get Phil back in the team

“Keep him and believe me he will turn to monster on the pitch in order to show his angerness and in the end it will benefit us the LFC.”
