Liverpool produced a scintillating attacking display against Bayern Munich on Tuesday, breezing to a 3-0 win at the Allianz Arena.
Much of the talk before the game was that this would be the Reds’ biggest test of the summer so far, with Bayern littered with world-class talent.
Not many gave Liverpool a chance of reaching Wednesday’s Audi Cup final against Atletico Madrid, but Jurgen Klopp‘s side were magnificent from start to finish.
Klopp went with a strong starting lineup against the Bundesliga champions, with the attacking quartet of Philippe Coutinho, Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino all involved from the off.
Loris Karius started in goal, while Alberto Moreno and Trent Alexander-Arnold were about to excel at left and right-back, respectively.
Liverpool made a dream start when Firmino found the on-rushing Mane, and the Senegalese winger finished with typical aplomb.
He celebrated with a trademark leap……
The Reds found themselves 2-0 up before half-time, as another flowing move saw Mane and Moreno link-up down the left and Salah head home from close-range.
Liverpool’s two flying wingers celebrated together……
Mane was an absolute menace throughout the night, while there was a typically understated performance by captain Jordan Henderson, and more wizardry on show from Coutinho.
Firmino may not have been as noticeable as his other teammates, but his endless work on and off the ball was as effective as ever.
Substitute Daniel Sturridge put the icing on the cake with a wonderful dinked finished late on, although he injured himself in the process, which was the one negative on the night.
We shouldn’t get too far ahead of ourselves, considering this was only a friendly against a fairly disappointing Bayern side, but we once again saw what Liverpool can do in the final third.
Attention now turns to Wednesday’s clash with Atletico – can the Reds make it two tournament wins this summer?
