Henri Saivet’s 33rd minute opener for the visitors was cancelled out swiftly when James Milner slotted away a penalty after Ludovic Sane brought down Christian Benteke in the area.
Benteke then turned hero himself, turning quickly and producing a fine strike from the edge of the area to beat Bordeaux goalkeeper Cedric Carrasso on the stoke of half-time.
It was a scrappy win, but one that sees Jurgen Klopp‘s side progress out of Group B with one round of fixtures still to play.
Liverpool can clinch top spot when they travel to second place Sion on Thursday, 10th December.
For the fans inside Anfield it was a most welcome victory after some concerning home form of late.
Liverpool will be looking to follow it up with victory in front of the home supporters again against Swansea on Sunday.
