Liverpool were dispatched of 4-1 by Arsenal on Saturday lunchtime, and their Champions League hopes lie in tatters in the process. We round-up the best social media reaction from the game.
Well what a miserable 90 minutes of football that was. From start to finish, barring a decent spell in the first-half, the Reds were a shambles, and there’s an argument to say the eventual 4-1 scoreline was actually harsh on Arsenal.
Brendan Rodgers’ side managed to overcome an abominable opening to the match, but then capitulated in eight dire minutes at the end of the first-half, conceding three times.
Jordan Henderson‘s penalty was merely a consolation, and Emre Can‘s sending off and Olivier Giroud’s strike rounded off a miserable game.

Too many players underperformed throughout, not least a completely out of sorts Kolo Toure and Lucas Leiva, and when it has really come to the crunch, Rodgers’ side have not delivered.
Their Champions League hopes are now all but over in truth, and if you lose so convincingly to your fellow top-four rivals two games on the bounce, you don’t really deserve to finish there.
Here’s how social media reacted to the game:
As long as Liverpool are willing to offer a new deal to Kolo Toure, Raheem Sterling isn't their biggest contract problem.

A red card which has far bigger implications for Wednesday rather than today.

Need a horrible, physical, ugly midfielder this summer. Mascherano with height would be lovely.

Looking forward to seeing Kolo Toure, Glen Johnson and Dejan Lovren all start against Blackburn.

‘gasband’ on the forum:
Terrible. All is not lost but even if we depend on other people losing and Arsenal and Man U do have some really difficult fixtures compared to ours, we still have to buck up ourselves. If we win all the matches bar the Chelsea one, we might still have a chance. But the mentality has to be strong and this is BR’s job now to either let the players think its all over or they can go down fighting in the remaining 7 matches.
Was right to have a bad feeling about that game before today, abject performance. Need to pick ourselves up now, FA cup still to play for.

Not to be melodramatic, but another error strewn performance in the cup on Wednesday & our season is completely over, dead in the water #LFC

‘Arminius’ on the forum:
If he (Rodgers) gets another season, I very much doubt he will be given the leeway to spend at any sort of premium. The model has three phases, buying 3-4 established players to consolidate and build a title contender is Phase 2. Today has shown that Rodgers has not got us out of the ‘build quality with youth’ phase. His best case is that FSG envisioned a possible two-season Phase 1, so this summer sees an iteration of building depth.

I'm as disappointed by 3 acts of wilful stupidity within the space of 2 matches as the results in those games. Gerrard, Skrtel, Can. #lfc

Glen Johnson will be playing Wednesday boys and girls. Take that in.

‘ILLOK’ on the forum:
Toure and Lucas were abysmal, Moreno isn’t good enough. I’d go back to a back for for the next game with Lovren and Sakho together, Manquillo and Flanagan (if fit enough) as the fullbacks.
Shambolic #LFC

Fortunately I'm old enough to remember Easter games being the time when we surged ahead to win the title. Now I have to watch that today

Blackburn next…no Gerrard,Skrtel and Can

The Nivea advert at Half time doesn't go down too well when you're 3-0 down.
