Liverpool reached the League Cup semi final with a 3-1 win over Bournemouth on Wednesday night, with Raheem Sterling shining as centre-forward, scoring twice.
There was much discussion at the opening goal, which saw 52 consecutive passes in the build up before Markovic’s cross was headed back across by Henderson for Sterling to open the scoring:

Great goal! Brilliant pass from Markovic header back & finish from Sterling. Lallana doing his Johan Cryuff impressions was my favourite bit

Build-up to #LFC's first took nearly four minutes and contained 81 passes – 51 uninterrupted – from what I can count: http://t.co/qToLeXl3Tl

Just had a go at working out number of passes from last retweet. Counting not a strong point for me but could be more than 80 led to goal

Indeed, Sterling’s performance as a whole was a major talking point:

Buzzing we're in the semi finals!!! Well done to the lads and Raz for notching a couple. Also Lazar for scoring his first goal for LFC.

Sterling could end up being a centre forward, done very well in both games he's played there.

Sterling makes the backpages tomorrow:

The sight of Lazar Markovic and Mamadou Sakho back playing pleased many, hoping that they will continue to be involved now:
Let's hope we see a lot more of Sakho, Markovic and Lallana after tonight. All three of them played well and should start on Sunday.

There was also praise for Lallana:
Good win that when you're on a bad run. Sterling did the damage but Lallana mom he must become one of the first names on the team sheet!
