Liverpool have completed the signing of England midfielder Adam Lallana from Southampton.
The 26-year-old, who was named in the PFA Team of the Year last season and in England’s World Cup squad, signs for a reported fee of £23 million.
Lallana enjoyed an impressive campaign for Southampton last season, scoring nine goals and assisting six. He’s a versatile player who can operate in any of the attacking roles; left, right or central.
Lallana will wear squad number 20 at Liverpool. The player told the official LFC website “I’ve been granted my wish to play at such a fantastic club, in Champions League football and competing for Premier League titles.”
“Hopefully we can win trophies while I’m here, because that’s why I’m here, for success” said Lallana.
On the move itself Lallana thanked his former club: “I’m grateful that Southampton accepted the offer in the end and granted my wish to play at such a fantastic football club.”
The St. Albans born player is also an excellent player at pressing opponents high up the pitch, something which is crucial within Brendan Rodgers’ system.
Adding depth to Liverpool’s options, Lallana will also mean that youngsters Raheem Sterling, 19, and Philippe Coutinho, 22, will not be over relied upon as The Reds return to Champions League football in 2014/15.

Lallana is Liverpool’s third confirmed signing of the summer, following his teammate Rickie Lambert who arrived for £4 million in May, and Germany under-21 midfielder Emre Can who signed for around £10 million from Bayer Leverkusen. More signings are expected in a busy summer at Anfield.
