Liverpool and Cardiff confirm Bellamy deal

Liverpool and Cardiff City have confirmed Craig Bellamy’s transfer between the two clubs. The Welshman rejoins his hometown club on a two-year deal. A fee has not been disclosed.

The 33 year old forward is returning to Cardiff to be nearer to his family. “I wanted to wake up every day with my kids,” he explained. “There’s more to life than football.”

BBC Sport report the player has taken a significant cut in wages to sign for the Cardiff – where he spent a season on loan before joining Liverpool last summer from Man City.

Earlier this week Brendan Rodgers explained “He is 33 and has travelled around the country all his life, so there are compassionate reasons. We will look at it but we will wish him all the best and move forward.”

Bellamy explained that Rodgers had attempted to persuade him to stay at Anfield, but that things that happened off the pitch last season – referring to the death of close friend Gary Speed – had changed him and he wished to be back at home with his family.

Bellamy, who also played for Liverpool from 2006 to 2007 under Rafa Benitez, made 79 appearances across the two spells, scoring 18 goals.

Best of luck, Craig.
