Suarez’s 2011/12 campaign was shrouded in controversy, with the 25-year-old involved in a race row with Manchester Utd’s Patrice Evra, and found guilty of an offensive gesture during a defeat at Fulham.
And after the departure of Kenny Dalglish, who stuck by Suarez throughout the sagas, the media have speculated about his future at Liverpool.
However, new Reds boss Brendan Rodgers says he has spoken to Suarez and expects the striker to sign a new contract at Anfield shortly.
“I’ve had a brilliant chat with Luis,” he said.
“He’s really looking forward to being here and we are hoping that we can get him on to another new contract. He’s really excited about the new season.”
Rodgers added, “I’m looking forward to bringing in three or four players that can really affect the group. I’ve got a wonderful group here.
“The reality is there are very few players who can come and make a difference to Liverpool.”
