Liverpool FC to play in China, Malaysia and Korea

Liverpool have coinfirmed that they will be embarking on a pre-season tour of Asia this summer, with games in China, Malaysia and South Korea.

The pre-season preparations will be sponsored by the club’s sponors Standard Chartered, who are keen to promote the LFC brand across Asia further.

The Reds will take on Guangzhou in South China, otherwise known as Canton City, before games in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia and Seoul in South Korea.

The club’s Managing Director Ian Ayre said on the announcement, “The last tour in 2009 was a real success and we’re delighted that we are returning this summer after a break last year due to the FIFA World Cup.

“Nothing beats watching the team live and by visiting China, Malaysia and Korea, we are allowing fans from all three countries to experience just that. We will work closely with our main sponsor Standard Chartered and our other partners in the region to ensure we can deliver our best ever pre-season tour.”

Liverpool’s last outing to Asia in 2009 saw games in Thailand and Singapore with Reds players paraded in baking temperatures prior to the games.

Is a pre-season tour of Asia good pre-season preparations? Or do the financial benefits outweigh this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or on Twitter @thisisanfield.
