Sami agrees German switch

Liverpool defender Sami Hyypia will part company with the club at the end of this season, ten years after being signed by Gerard Houllier.

The 35-year-old Finnish international has been an integral part of both Houllier’s and successor Rafa Benitez’s success over the years.

Hyypia has agreed terms on a two-year deal with Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen, after passing a medical on Monday morning.

A statement on Liverpool’s official web site said, “Hyypia has earned legendary status at Anfield for the part he has played in the club’s many successes over the past decade.

“He will leave Merseyside with the best wishes of every Liverpool supporter.”

Look out for tributes to the big Finn over the next few weeks.
