Xabi Alonso will seal a £22million move to Real Madrid this summer, according to Spanish newspaper, Sport.
Reports in Spain also suggest that long-term transfer target of Benitez’s and former Manchester United full-back Gabriel Heinze could be on his way to from the Bernabeau to Anfield as part of the deal.
It has recently been reported that Alonso is discontented at Liverpool after threats that Aston Villa‘s Gareth Barry would be signed to replace him.
It could pave the way for a move for Barry, although reports suggest that Benitez is interested in signing Spanish striker Alvaro Negredo who plays for Almeria, but Real have a buy-back option for.
Meanwhile reports this weekend also suggest that Liverpool are on the verge of signing Brazilian midfielder Zezinho from Juventude, who play in Brazil’s Serie B.
The 17-year-old is being chased by a number of clubs, although Juventude have denied any contact from European sides.
