Gerrard goes to Spain

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is in the squad for Wednesday night’s Champions League encounter with Real Madrid, it has been confirmed.

The midfielder has been out of action for three weeks after picking up a hamstring injury during the Reds’ 1-0 defeat to Everton in the FA Cup.

Gerrard went through a light training session today and completed fitness tests. He will fly to the Spanish capital with the rest of the squad tomorrow morning.

Manager Rafael Benitez confirmed the good news, “Steven will be in the squad. He was okay in training this morning.

“It was a special training session so we were not testing him one hundred per cent, but he trained okay so we will see.”

Real Madrid vs Liverpool on Wednesday, 25th February kicks off at 7.45pm at the Bernabeau Stadium.
