On their last home game of the season, Liverpool entertained Chelsea in front of 53,754 spectators. Liverpool needed just one point to clinch the title.

The game will be remembered for a number of moments, as the Liverpool players entered the pitch, the Chelsea players formed two lines applauding the Liverpool players onto the pitch.

The first half ended goalless with the best chance falling to Roger Hunt when his shot hit the inside of the post and rebounded back into the goalkeepers arms. Both Chelsea and Liverpool were defending and attacking well throughout the first half.

However, just 3 minutes into the second half, Roger Hunt opened the scoring for the Reds but Chelsea responded with a goal to level the match. Liverpool continues pressurising Chelsea in search of the win and with just twenty minutes remaining on the cock, it was Roger Hunt again who grabbed Liverpool’s second.

With minutes left the Kop began their: “Ee-aye-addio, we’ve won the League” chant. The scenes of joy as the final whistle blew will live with us forever as Shankly and the players made an emotional lap of honour around Anfield, the reception from the fans was incredible!
