This game will always be remembered as the night Alun Evans scored a hat trick… On the 10th March 1971, Liverpool played German giants Bayern Munich in the European Fairs Cup 4th round first leg tie at Anfield infront of 45,616 supporters.

The German side were a very strong oppossition whose team included the names of Gerd Muller, Uli Hoeness, Georg Schwarzenbeck and Franz Beckenbauer, but Liverpool produced a magnificent performance on the night with Alun Evand grabbing all the headlines!!

Two years before, aged only 19, Evans was Britain’s most expensive teenager at the time and was bought by manager Bill Shankly to replace Tony Hateley, but it was this match in which Alun Evans played his most memorable game for the club.
