Liverpool are on the verge of signing Roma midfielder Alberto Aquilani as a replacement for Xabi Alonso.
The 26-year-old Italian is expected to undergo a medical on Merseyside on Thursday and could even feature for the Reds in their final pre-season friendly on Saturday against Athletico Madrid at Anfield.
