Cisse looks to “my club” Liverpool

Former Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse says he wishes to make a return to English football, declaring that he still has a place for Liverpool in his heart.

Cisse, signed by Gerard Houllier, but only played under Rafa Benitez, left Anfield for Marseille in 2006, and has since played for Sunderland and Panathinaikos.

His record for the Greek club has been very impressive, scoring 23 goals in just 28 appearances and earning himself a place in France’s World Cup squad.

Now Cisse is aiming to make his way back to England, where he owns property in Cheshire with his wife from North Wales.

“At Liverpool I didn’t have my chance,” he said.

“At Sunderland I had a good time but I fancy coming back to Liverpool – that would be nice.

“I like Arsenal because my friends are there, Manchester is nice, but my club is Liverpool.

“From my point of view, England is one of the best if not the best place to play football.”

Cisse scored 12 times in his 49 appearances for the Reds between 2004 and 2006, playing a part in the club’s famous Champions League win in Istanbul in 2005.
