Kevin Stewart leaves Liverpool pre-season to discuss £8 million Hull City move

Liverpool midfielder Kevin Stewart has left Liverpool’s pre-season squad in Hong Kong to discuss terms with Hull City over a deal worth up to £8 million.

The 23-year-old was named as part of Jurgen Klopp‘s 25-man group to head to the Far East, but won’t be taking part against Crystal Palace on Wednesday afternoon.

Instead, Stewart is travelling back to England as he prepares to leave the Reds, three years after signing on a free transfer from Tottenham.

According to the Times‘ Paul Joyce, the Reds have accepted an offer from recently relegated Hull that could rise to £8 million:

This represents great value for the midfielder, who made just nine appearances for Klopp’s first team last season, including only 16 minutes in the Premier League.

Stewart signed a new five-year contract with Liverpool in November, but is far down the pecking order on Merseyside, and had attracted interest from Brighton & Hove Albion, Burnley and Stoke City.

Now it seems that he will instead join the Tigers in the Championship, and could be followed by Ryan Kent, with discussions ongoing regarding a potential loan deal.

Hull paying Liverpool up to £8 million for Stewart effectively wipes out the fee mooted for left-back Andrew Robertson to head the other way.

The Scotland international is said to have left Hull’s pre-season training camp in Portugal on Monday in order to finalise his move to Merseyside, becoming Klopp’s third summer signing.
