Jurgen Klopp reveals when Adam Lallana and Philippe Coutinho will feature in pre-season

Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Adam Lallana and Philippe Coutinho will likely miss both of Liverpool’s domestic pre-season friendlies this week.

The duo returned to Melwood to begin training on Tuesday morning, undergoing routine tests to determine their fitness ahead of a busy summer of preparations.

With the Reds taking on Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park on Wednesday night and Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium two days later, supporters could have hoped to see Lallana and Coutinho feature.

However, Klopp has explained that they will definitely miss the first friendly, while they are also unlikely to be passed fit to take on the Latics.

Instead, he has pencilled in the two clashes in the Premier League Asia Trophy in Hong Kong for their return.

“Pretty much all of the players [back at Melwood] will play at Tranmere,” he told LiverpoolFC.com.

“Of course, not Adam and Phil—they only arrived on Tuesday and they have to train now, then we will see how far they are before the game at Wigan.

“It is not even sure we will try this, so then for sure in Asia they will be a part of the lineup.”

Klopp also gave further indication as to which players are likely to feature against Tranmere, with the majority of his squad set to be available in Birkenhead.

“On Wednesday morning I will make the lineup, but everyone who can run, if you like, will play!” he continued.

“So that’s what we will try to do, we have a nice and big group at the moment.

“Little problems here, little problems there, but not too much so far.

“We have more than 20 players at the moment and even more goalkeepers, but I don’t know who will start tomorrow.

“It’s not that important for me so much, but whoever comes to Tranmere we will see pretty much all of them that are available.”

The German can be expected to field a different lineup in each half, with only Lallana, Coutinho, Sadio Mane and Danny Ings seemingly unavailable due to fitness issues.

Mohamed Salah is absent, with the winger required to travel to Paris in order to secure a work permit, and he should also to come into contention in Hong Kong.
