Liverpool reject Celtic’s approach for youngster Harry Wilson

Liverpool have turned down a bid from Celtic for youngster Harry Wilson, with former manager Brendan Rodgers keen on taking him north to the Scottish champions.

Rodgers cruised to the Scottish Premiership title in 2016/17, with his Celtic side going unbeaten throughout the season.

The ex-Liverpool boss is keen to add quality to his squad this summer, however, and Wilson is clearly someone he has a lot of admiration for.

Celtic have attempted to acquire Wilson’s signature on either a temporary of short-term basis, but their efforts have proved unsuccessful.

The report, written by the Liverpool Echo‘s James Pearce, claims that Jurgen Klopp “sees the 20-year-old as being part of his plans for the 2017/18 campaign.”

This will come as a huge confidence boost to Wilson, if true, with the Wales international managing just one first-team appearance last season. That came in the FA Cup third round replay at Plymouth Argyle.

The likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ben Woodburn have enjoyed more playing time, although some have felt Wilson has been hard done by, following a superb season for the U23s.

The 20-year-old forward registered more than 20 goals and assists for Mike Garrity’s side, as he captained them to third-place in the Premier League 2 table.

It will be interesting to see what opportunities come Wilson’s way next season, with some big-name signings expected to arrive at Anfield.

The Liverpool manager has always been one to give youth a chance, so if Wilson can kick on, there is no reason why he can’t become a more firm fixture in the squad.

For the club to swat aside Celtic’s interest goes to show how highly they think of him.
