David Wagner wants Danny Ward to remain at Huddersfield

It’s a huge weekend for Liverpool loanee Danny Ward, with the Welsh goalkeeper in action for Huddersfield Town in the Championship play-off final on Bank Holiday Monday.

Ward has enjoyed an impressive campaign at the Yorkshire side under the management of Jurgen Klopp‘s former Dortmund colleague and best man, David Wagner.

Ahead of Monday’s play-off final against Reading, reports claim Wagner is keen to keep the 23-year-old at the Terriers next season.

It’s claimed that Wagner wants Ward to remain as his No.1 if Huddersfield are promoted, but surely it would make just as much sense for him to want to keep him even if they aren’t promoted.

Ward has kept 11 cleansheets for the Championship side this season and benefitted from making 43 appearances in a season.

Klopp has insisted that he is happy with his goalkeeping options, frequently naming Ward along with Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet for his options next season, but speaking specifically about Ward after the play-off semi-final he said that “I don’t make decisions now.”

Klopp is likely to take all three of his ‘keepers on the pre-season tours of Asia and Germany, perhaps then making a decision on whether to loan Ward out again or not.
