Liverpool name final squad for 2016/17 Premier League: Sakho & Ilori included

Liverpool have submitted their final squad for the 2016/17 Premier League campaign, with out-of-favour defenders Mamadou Sakho and Tiago Ilori included.

Jurgen Klopp pushed to seal departures for the duo on Wednesday’s summer transfer deadline, but Sakho rejected a series of loan offers and Ilori failed to garner interest in a permanent deal.

This has left their futures up in the air, but with Klopp naming a 22-man senior squad for the new season, both have been selected.

Klopp has included seven homegrown players in Nathaniel Clyne, James Milner, Kevin Stewart, Jordan Henderson, Adam Lallana, Danny Ings and Daniel Sturridge.

First-team fixtures Divock Origi, Marko Grujic, Joe Gomez and Sheyi Ojo are left out, but are not required to be registered as they aged 21 or under.

Furthermore, the likes of Cameron Brannagan, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ovie Ejaria, Pedro Chirivella and Connor Randall are not included but can expect to feature in 2016/17.

Klopp’s squad features seven new signings for the season in Grujic, Alex Manninger, Loris Karius, Joel Matip, Ragnar Klavan, Georginio Wijnaldum and Sadio Mane.

Whether Sakho or Ilori take to field at any stage in 2016/17 is unclear, but seems unlikely.

The former is expected to be frozen out having turned down Stoke City, West Bromwich Albion and Besiktas despite Klopp’s insistence he leaves on loan, and the latter is set to play U23s football.
