Sadio Mane set for Monday medical after Liverpool agree £30m fee

Sadio Mane will travel to Merseyside for a medical on Monday after Liverpool agreed a £30 million fee with Southampton for the attacker.

The news is reported by all the Liverpool correspondents, with the move expected to be finalised within the next 24 hours.

Liverpool should announce the move early this week, with Mane becoming the fourth arrival of the summer and the club’s third most expensive signing behind Christian Benteke and Andy Carroll.

He’ll be the fifth player to move from St. Mary’s to Anfield in the last two years, following Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren and Nathaniel Clyne.

Mane should be unveiled this week and therefore join his new team mates when they return for pre-season training on Saturday. He should make his first appearance against Tranmere a week on Friday.

The 24-year-old, who was the subject of a bid from Man United last summer, scored 15 goals and assisted nine in all competitions last season for Southampton. He’ll add width and pace to Klopp’s attacking options for the new season.

Klopp wants his signings secured early to ensure they can participate fully in pre-season, and Mane will join fellow new boys Joel Matip, Loris Karius and Marko Grujic at Melwood.

Southampton signed Norwich City winger Nathan Redmond for £11 million this weekend, paving the way for the Senegal international to move to Liverpool.

Mane broke Robbie Fowler’s record for the fastest ever Premier League hat-trick when he scored three goals in 2 minutes 56 seconds against Aston Villa in his first season in England.

While some supporters may balk at the fee involved, it represents how inflated the transfer market is this summer with new TV deals worth £8 billion kicking in next season. Liverpool will look to recoup a large amount of that fee by offloading Christian Benteke.

Mane will add attacking options, able to play anywhere across the front line.
