Liverpool reject £8m bid from Swansea for Joe Allen

Liverpool have reportedly rejected an £8 million bid for midfielder Joe Allen from Swansea City.

The Liverpool Echo report that the bid was made last week, and a second bid hasn’t yet been made by the Welsh club.

Allen’s form for Wales at Euro 2016 has seen him subject of plenty of interest, with Spanish side Sevilla among those also linked with the 26-year-old.

The Welshman has been a standout player for Chris Coleman’s side and that form along with his positive showings for Liverpool in the final months of the season, sees Liverpool wanting nearer the £15 million they paid for Allen to Swansea back in 2012.

The likeable midfielder only has a year left on his contract and despite some fans eager to see him remain at Anfield, his future looks almost certainly away from the Reds this summer.

Allen finds himself behind Emre Can, Jordan Henderson and James Milner in midfield, competing with Lucas Leiva, Kevin Stewart and new signing Marko Grujic next season.

Jurgen Klopp is also looking to strengthen in midfield with the acquisition of Polish international Piotr Zielinski and long-term interest in German Mahmoud Dahoud.

Wherever Allen ends up this summer, his new club will be acquiring a quality midfielder.
