Rumour Mill: Liverpool bid for Lorient left-back Raphael Guerreiro

Liverpool’s search for a new left-back has reportedly seen them turn their attention to Lorient defender Raphael Guerreiro.

According to the French club’s vice-president, Alex Hayes, the Reds are one of several top clubs to make an offer for the 22-year-old.

“For now four major foreign clubs, including Dortmund and Liverpool have made an offer [for Guerreiro],” claims Hayes, with Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal also thought to be interested.

The Portuguese youngster is highly-rated in France, especially for his attacking qualities, and is capable of playing as either a full-back or a winger.

Geurreiro has scored 10 goals in 111 appearances for Lorient, since joining in 2013, and he has been named in Portugal’s squad for Euro 2016.

The patchy form of Alberto Moreno this season has seen pressure grow on the Spaniard, with his poor performance in the Europa League final against Sevilla a low point.

Jurgen Klopp is keen to add depth in that area of his squad, with Leicester‘s Ben Chilwell and Cologne’s Jonas Hector both linked with moves to Anfield.

Klopp is aiming to get his summer transfer business done in good time, in order to have his squad settled going into pre-season.

Loris Karius became Liverpool’s third signing of the summer on Tuesday, the German joining from Mainz for £4.7million, following the January deals for Joel Matip and Marko Grujic.
