Yesil, who is currently on loan at Swiss side FC Luzern, has targeted a Liverpool return after Klopp replaced Brendan Rodgers in the Anfield dugout.

“Ever since it was announced that Brendan Rodgers was no longer in charge of Liverpool, I checked almost every hour to see who would step into his footsteps,” the 21-year-old reportedly told Omnisport.

“Yesterday I realised that Jurgen Klopp, who I know from the Bundesliga, is going to be Rodgers’ successor for at least three years.

“I hope that things are changing for Liverpool in a positive way now. As he proved in Germany, Klopp is a great coach.

“It’s a good decision to get him.”

Yesil believes that his connection with fellow German Klopp will boost his chances of a starting role on Merseyside, with his relationship with former Red Markus Babbel at Luzern proving similarly influential.

The former Bayer Leverkusen striker has scored one goal and made one assist in four appearances in the Swiss Super League so far this season.

Doing so in a Liverpool shirt will prove more challenging, but Yesil says Klopp’s focus on youth development will work in his favour.

“Probably I am coming back to the Reds and I am pretty excited about it because obviously he is German and I am a German as well,” he continued.

“So the communication will be a lot easier for me.

“In addition he is a guy that supports young players and that excites me as well.”

Klopp arrives at Liverpool with an open mind, prepared to take the current squad at face value.

This could well see Yesil’s first-team prospects improve.
