Following Liverpool’s 1-0 win at Stoke City on Sunday, we round-up the best of the social media reaction during and after the game.
It was an ugly, ugly game at the Britannia Stadium, but late victories like that feel so sweet. Especially when they come against teams as pesky as Stoke.
Philippe Coutinho‘s sensational late strike proved to be the difference between the two sides, on a day when a draw was probably fair.
There weren’t many standout performers, although Dejan Lovren‘s performance at centre-back was certainly a reason for positivity.
Here is how social media reacted to Liverpool’s opening weekend victory:
Important win for Brendan Rodgers and #LFC. That victory will go some way to exorcising ghosts of 77 days ago, when they also score 1 goal

The travelling Kop enjoyed that stunner from Coutinho. https://t.co/F3bQ3xCFTV

What had often been a charmless game has just been settled by a quite magnificent goal. Stunning strike from @Phil_Coutinho.

#LFC scored the same number of goals as they did in their last game at the Britannia. Thankfully they let six fewer in too. #Lovren

The perfect result for a new season beginning. Great goal from Coutinho as well. Happy days! :-)
Lots to work on, the creativity was poor but will be better when players get back their match sharpness. Can and Firmino need to start.

Dull game, but a good result. We’re already 3 points ahead of Arsenal and Tottenham, and 2 ahead of Chelsea.
#LFC so much better with the system and personnel that finished the game. Much better balance.

You do know what happened last time #LFC beat Stoke 1-0 on the opening day of the season, don't you? (and Arsenal lost then too).

Emre Can in midfield freed up Henderson and Milner. Those three together are the way forward. Forza Liverpool! #LFC
