Jose Enrique: Where will Liverpool left-back end up this month?

Jose Enrique (remember him) is linked with a move to West Brom this week, as Liverpool look to shift the former Newcastle defender.

Enrique, 29, is currently training separately from the Reds’ first-team squad, along with fellow unwanted players Fabio Borini and Mario Balotelli.

There’s been reports that West Brom will offer him a chance to remain in the Premier League, but those reports lack substance – originating in the Daily Star.

Others cite the equally unreliable Italian website Tuttomercatoweb as the source for such a report.

Tony Pulis, a manager who desires robust defenders, often playing centre-backs at full-back, hardly seems likely to be signing the injury prone and defensively fragile Enrique, even if it were on loan.

Enrique has not featured for Liverpool since January, when he started in the FA Cup against Bolton. He’s behind Alberto Moreno, Joe Gomez and even under-21 player Joe Maguire at left-back.

The Spaniard started six games last season but there are huge question marks over his fitness. He’s become more well known now for his frequent Instagram updates and posts resembling a lovestruck teenager.

He’s clearly unwanted at Liverpool, but it seems unlikely that there will be many Premier League clubs offering him a chance to remain in the top flight. Perhaps a loan move to a Championship, or back to La Liga, will materialise.

Enrique’s contract at Liverpool expires next summer.
