Rumour Mill: Liverpool target Monaco midfielder Lucas Ocampos

Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Monaco attacking midfielder Lucas Ocampos, according to reports in Italy.

With the Raheem Sterling transfer saga and expected exit appearing to be a matter of when and not if, Brendan Rodgers looks to have started his search for attacking replacements, with the Argentinian said to be a potential option.

Tuttomercatoweb report that Liverpool are “targeting the transfer of Monaco star Ocampos” and that “the Reds have been impressed by the Argentine attacker” who spent the second half of last season on loan with fellow French side Marseille.

After scoring twice for his loan club and grabbing an assist in 14 appearances which included three starts, it’s claimed that Marseille “are happy” to extend the midfielder’s loan spell from their Ligue 1 rivals, suggesting Liverpool could face a battle to bring the 20-year-old to Anfield.

Ocampos could offer the Reds a versatile offensive option having played centrally and from both flanks throughout his short career, which saw him move from River Plate to current club Monaco in 2012 for a reported fee of £15million.

The Reds could face Premier League competition for Ocampos’ signature too, with West Ham also reported to be keeping tabs on the attacker.
