Liverpool miss out on Mohamed Salah as winger joins Chelsea

Liverpool have missed out on their most talked about transfer target, Mohamed Salah, after the Egyptian international agreed to join Chelsea, subject to a medical.

A statement on Chelsea’s official website on Thursday afternoon reads:

Chelsea Football Club can confirm an agreement has been reached with FC Basel for the transfer of their 21-year-old attacking midfielder Mohamed Salah.

It is understood that Liverpool were outbid by the Blues, who were willing to pay up to £6 million more to Basel for Salah’s services.

Salah joining Chelsea will now open up the door for Juan Mata’s £37 million move to Manchester United to be completed.

At his press conference on Thursday, Reds boss Brendan Rodgers was undecided on how much transfer activity he expects to see at Liverpool this month.
