Liverpool linked with in-form Burnley striker Danny Ings

Liverpool are set to make a bid to bring Burnley and England Under-21 international striker Danny Ings to Anfield this January, according to reports.

Ings, who has scored two goals in his two caps for the England U21 side, is currently the Championship’s second top scorer with 11 goals, just one off top scorer Ross McCormack of Leeds Utd.

The 21-year-old has risen to form this season following the departure from Turf Moor of Charlie Austin to Queen’s Park Rangers.

Rodgers’ striking options have dwindled since the news that Daniel Sturridge face six to eight weeks on the sidelines with ankle ligament damage, and Italian Fabio Borini being out on-loan at Sunderland.

A new out-and-out striker may well be towards the top of Rodgers’ January transfer wish list, however Simon Jones of the Daily Mail reports:

A move for Ings may again raise eyebrows with supporters expecting bigger names to back up Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez.

Ings missed Burnley‘s goalless draw at home to Watford on Tuesday night with an ankle problem.

Liverpool have also been linked with a move for Derby County’s Will Hughes. Is Rodgers looking towards youngsters in the Championship to make the step up to the Reds?
